Nice, clean, relaxing environment , plus great ventilation. Christopher the owner is helpful and welcoming. He can answer any question you have. High end club feeling without the price of joining a club.
Above and beyond any cigar shop in Des Moines. They have the best selection of boutique cigar manufacturers I have seen almost anywhere in the country. The owner knows his stuff and is eager to help you make the right selection.
Pros: Extra clean. Plenty of seating. You can BYOB. Golf simulators if you like golfing. Chris is friendly and knowledgeable. Has a selection of primarily boutique cigars that you can't find in most other shops in the Des Moines. Carries a few major brands like Crowned Heads and DT&T. A few big screen TVs to watch the game on.
The good? A nice selection of cigars at fair prices that are taken care of properly in a comfortable and relaxing environment to smoke in. The bad? Unfortunately, the hours of operation are changed on a whim, not posted on any medium I've found when changed, and just unreliable. I am writing this post at 6:45 on a Thursday sitting right outside of Club Herf. The company website, Facebook page, and Google all say that they are open until 8. I drove an hour out of my way to make this stop and grab a few delicious cigars during a long night of work. Yet here I am looking at closed doors, lights off, no sign on the door giving a reason for being closed. This is the 5th time this has happened. Extremely unprofessional. My coworker who is with me and I were regulars too. We're not going to continue patronage somewhere we never know is going to be open when we get there. Time to find a new cigar shop. Very, very disappointing.
What a great place to enjoy a quality cigar, and relax watching the Ball game. Clean, spacious, and a class act.
Cons: I recommend that if you are going to go to Club Herf, call ahead or check his Facebook page to make sure he is open. His listed hours are more of a suggestion. I personally have driven across town to enjoy a stick at Club Herf four times now during business hours only to find the store CLOSED. Once was on a Saturday to watch the Hawkeyes play, and he said he had to go to Kansas City. He had no notice on the Club Herf Facebook page (he claims he updates his personal page, which does the business and customer no good). I left a negative review before because of this exact same issue, and he tried to make it right, which he did, I guess. But within a month the same thing happened. Closed without notice. Done wasting my gas and cigar money on a place that doesn't respect its customers.
