Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Have had a great shopping experience every time I've stopped in. Their in house brand products I have purchased are in my opinion the same quality as more expensive specialty brand products.
Without question, REI in West Des Moines is my favorite store to shop at!
A recent purchase of mine led them to offer a discount at the expense of a logistical nightmare for the store, but they sorted everything for me and stood by their word even though it took over an hour to straighten out (not for lack of effort). Even though it took a while, I appreciated their honesty and diligence in getting me what I wanted and on my way.
I love REI! My experience in this store overall was good, when I had specific gear questions the employee that was the most knowledgeable was on break. Obviously, this was a case of bad timing and the the employee I had approached was honest about their limited knowledge. All interactions were positive. Thank you!
Staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. You can’t beat their return and exchange policy, and a membership is well worth the money. Dividends don’t always apply to clearance or sale items, but even for a person who almost exclusively shops their sales, it has paid itself off a few times over.
Always enjoy coming to this store. Glad Des Moines has an REI. I was dissatisfied with a brand of shoe whose quality, in my opinion, has declined over the years. A very helpful staff member not only give me some insight of the changing shoe industry, he also encouraged me to contact the shoe company directly, assisted me with an exchange and suggested another shoe brand that may better fit my needs. I have been a member since 2006. I love this Co-op.
Also, I don’t generally recommend collecting credit cards, let alone carrying a balance, but their store MasterCard has some good perks if you shop REI often. Interest is quite high, but just using it and paying it off in full yields greater dividends and donates a little to outdoor charities each purchase.
Always good customer service. Employees are friendly and extremely knowledgeable but never pushy. Prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. Always high quality and built to last. If you shop even occasionally at REI it's definitely worth becoming a member!
